Kristen Nielsen Donnelly, MSW, M.Div, PhD- guest expert

Do you feel that we could all use a little more empathy in this world? How as parents can we develop that in ourselves and our children? Once you hear this conversation, you'll see the power of how just a little empathy, can go a long way.

Dr. Kristen Donnelly is our special guest expert today and we are so excited about this episode.  Kristin has earned two Masters degrees--in social work and divinity--and has a Ph.D. in Sociology. Dr. Donnelly is a social science researcher and she is the founder Abbey Research, which is an organization that educates and empowers inclusive communities. She is an international empathy educator and feels called to help people understand the beauty in difference and the power in inclusivity. She also refers to herself as an “unapologetic nerd,” and long-time listeners know that we LOVE nerds around here.

She’s here to discuss EMPATHY—what it is, why we need it, how we can develop it, both in ourselves and our children.

Tune in to learn:

 - Kristen' perspective on empathy
-  How empathy and emotional intelligence are closely related.
-  The way that privilege shapes the conversation
- Curious children tend to be more resilient. What does it mean to be curious and "chase the answer", then how to teach that to your kids?
- It is ok for kids to know that complicated is ok.
- How it is important to know people before making judgements?
- Diversity cannot be a goal because we are all diverse.
