Show Notes

Cast:
Dr. Tara Egan, host
Anna, teen co-host

Anna is back again with Tara to discuss a very important topic, bullying. The title of this episode is, "Bullies and Being Bullied, What Parent Need to Know."

This topic is such an important one, and in doing their research they realized there is traditional bullying (in person) and there is cyber bullying (online). They found there is so much information on each type, that it can be overwhelming. They decided to break the two types into their own episodes, this is first one.

They jump in by defining bullying to clarify what they are talking about because there can be some confusion. Bullying is unwanted aggressive behavior amongst children (can happen between adults too) involving  real or perceived power of balance and where the behavior  is repeated or has the potential to be repeated over time.

Listen in to learn:

- Why kids bully.

- How quickly the balance of power can change and how it  happens more often than you think.

- The various types of bullying (verbal, social, physical, cyber), along with examples of where and how it can happen.

- That bullying is typically under reported and why kids refrain from reporting it.

- Why it is so important  not to label kids as bullies OR victims.

- Roles that kids  play in bullying situations.
      - How one person can reinforce or change the trajectory of the bullying incidence.

- Signs to look out for in your kids that they may be being bullied or your kid is bullying other kids.
