Today we have two special guest experts today on our podcast. Dr. Victoria Davis and Dr. Kate Chappell, both faculty at the University of South Carolina’s College of Nursing. They’re here to inform our listeners about a new medical program launching this summer called CRAwl, Childcare Ready for All.

CRAwl, launched in partnership with the South Carolina Child Care Inclusion Collaborative and University of South Carolina’s College of Nursing, will continually educate childcare program workers to create better access to childcare programs for children with special healthcare needs and ensure childcare providers feel ready to care for these children.

What function does the CRAwl team provide?

They will act as a resource to prepare childcare providers to serve families of children with special healthcare needs and help parents and guardians with identifying and preparing childcare centers to assist with their children’s special healthcare needs. This program will work to strengthen the community, increase inclusivity, and grow opportunities for families for special healthcare needs throughout the state.

Listen in to learn more about:
-Nine of the health conditions that CRAwl works to provide training in (as we know that the kids targeted in this program are NOT the same kids who qualify for medically fragile healthcare).

- How these health conditions impact a child’s ability to access appropriate child care.

- How does this impact inclusivity for these kids?

- Who can participate in the training (both home and center-based daycares).

- If childcare workers are required to have any particular credentials?

- A description of the training that childcare program workers should expect. What it looks like?

- How daycare providers that are interested in receiving this training, can they access it?

- If you are a parent with a child with a special healthcare need, is it appropriate to tell your child’s daycare about this program?
